Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo 2021 was supported in part by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

We thank the following organizations for their generous contributions to Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo:

In June 2021, Vélo Canada Bikes organized Canada’s very first national bike count. Between June 1st & 6th, 2021, over 1,000 volunteers in 68 communities across Canada were out counting cyclists. Our focused on fourteen pilot communities to get a better understanding of who is cycling.
Here are the results of the 2021 Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo, with a detailed look at our fourteen pilot communities.
Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo is about getting a snapshot of who is riding and where. Volunteers were out counting cyclists and gathering demographic data. Our volunteers captured, when they could, the perceived age, gender, and race of each cyclist. In doing so, we can now not only see who is out riding but, possibly more importantly, who isn’t riding. This data will help us get better infrastructure in the right place to make sure that everyone can cycle, everywhere.
